Isabel Clara Eugenia was Infant of Spain, Sovereign of the Netherlands and Governor of the Netherlands. Daughter of the King Philip II and his third wife Isabel de Valois.
Childhood.
Isabel Clara Eugenia was born the 12 August of 1566 in Valsaín (Segovia, Castile). She was the eldest daughter of the King Philip II and his third marriage with Isabel de Valois. The arrival of a new sister the next year reinforced parental links of the king with his two daughters, who waited anxiously the arrival of a son. When Isabel was only two years old, her mother died in a horrible
Governor of the Low Countries.
In 1598, Philip II gave Isabel Clara Eugenia the spanish Low Countries and the duchy of Burgundy on his coming marriage with his cousin the Archduke Albert VII of Austria, grandson of Charles I of Spain, leaving both as sovereigns of the territories. In that wat, Phlip II tried to solve the problem created by the revolt of the Low Countries, which led to the 80 Years War.
In 1921, Albert of Austria died and, having no children of the marriage, the Low Countries returned to the Spanish Crown. Isabel Clara Eugenia hel the position of governor and resided there for the rest of her life until she died in 1633.
Marriage.
On April 18,1559, at 33 years old, Isabel married is cousin Albert VII of Austria. He was the sovereign pf the spanish Low Countries, and the former Viceroy of Portugal.
